PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - The city of Pascagoula has been given $300,000 for a school-oriented safety project.

Southern District Transportation Commissioner Tom King presented the check to the city council Tuesday night.

The Mississippi Press reports (https://bit.ly/1pC9iib ) the state Department of Transportation money is part of a Safe Routes to School project that will add safety features around Beach Elementary School.

The project will include pedestrian and bike improvements such as school zone flashers, signs and roadway striping to designate bike lanes and crosswalks.
