KETCHIKAN, Alaska (AP) - The state transportation department has issued a request for a proposal to Vigor Alaska to construct two new Alaska Class ferries.

The Ketchikan Daily News reports (https://is.gd/QDmJTZ) Vigor Alaska has three weeks from last Monday to respond. Transportation department spokeswoman Jeremy Woodrow says they would like a contract in place by mid-September.

The request doesn’t ensure Vigor will get the contract, but he says the company and the state have reached an informal understanding on details of the proposal before the request went out.

Copies of the proposal are secret, but the state has a $120 million budget to build the two day boats.
