MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - A local atheist says she and other religious groups want their own commemorations in a Mobile government plaza after officials decided to display the national motto, “In God We Trust.”

Amanda Scott told WKRG-TV (https://bit.ly/1uuT6kg ) that she felt excluded as an atheist. She said the motto also excludes polytheists.

County Commission Chair Connie Hudson and other officials said the national motto is appropriate for a public building. They say it has historical significance and is printed on national currency.
