MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Memphis police are looking for a person who abandoned a newborn next to a trash bin.

Police say the baby appears less than a week old and had no apparent injuries but was taken to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital. The Tennessee Department of Children Services will determine placement.

Police were called to the location Thursday night after someone reported seeing a female place something by a large metal trash bin. Police say the witness walked to the receptacle and discovered the baby.

The witness told police the female ran when she saw the witness. Her identity is unknown but police described her as black, 17 to 20 years old, 5-feet-5 to 5-7 tall, 125 to 130 pounds, shoulder-length hair and baggie brown clothes.
