OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - A legally blind Oakland man who was driving without a license has been charged with felony vehicular manslaughter for fatally hitting a retired San Francisco State professor earlier this year.

The Oakland Tribune reported Thursday (https://bit.ly/V3DIio) that 57-year-old Robert Jack Gilchrist will enter a plea August 14.

He is charged in the death of 98-year-old Joseph Luft, a renowned psychologist and World War II veteran who was out on his daily walk April 4 when he was hit in a Berkeley crosswalk. Luft died at a hospital.

The newspaper says Luft was known internationally for being the co-creator of the Johari window, an awareness exercise for people to determine how they perceive themselves and how they are perceived by others.
