AMESBURY, Mass. (AP) - Amesbury police are continuing efforts to determine the cause of a fiery car crash that killed a man and a dog.

The car crashed into a condominium building off Merrimac Street and burst into flames Thursday afternoon. Firefighters kept the blaze from spreading into the building, which was evacuated as a precaution.

The name of the man who died hasn’t been released. Authorities say he was badly burned and they’re working to confirm his identity.

Witnesses said the driver appeared to lose control of the car shortly after stopping at a stop sign. The car went between two utility poles, plummeted down an embankment and smashed into the former mill building.
