JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - City Councilman Quentin Whitwell says he will resign by Oct. 31

Whitwell tells WLBT-TV (https://bit.ly/1krCjxS ) that personal and professional considerations are driving his decision to leave the council.

Whitwell represents the city’s 1st Ward in Jackson’s northeast sections. He has been on the council since 2011.

A special election would be held within 45 days after his resignation becomes formal.
