CHICAGO (AP) - A Democratic legislator says he’ll call for an override of Gov. Pat Quinn’s proposed changes to a plan aimed at curbing additional medical bill fees.

State Sen. William Haine of Alton said Friday that Quinn’s alterations through his amendatory veto power are beyond technical and the insurance industry objects.

The legislation addresses some types of lab work, requiring ordering physicians to disclose details about services and fees. This week, Quinn proposed giving regulators authority to punish physicians for bill markup while still giving doctors the ability to choose which lab they work with.

Quinn has said his changes protect consumers and give doctors flexibility.

Lawmakers strongly supported the original legislation. A three-fifths vote is needed override Quinn’s proposed changes.

Legislators return to Springfield in November.

The legislation is SB1630.
