TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Tempe police say a pedestrian is in critical condition and are searching for a hit-and-run driver.

Authorities say the driver hit a 29-year-old man while he was crossing Scottsdale Road near Weber Drive on Thursday night.

Police say the collision left the victim critically injured and his prosthetic leg in the street.

Sgt. Dale Hoobler says the pedestrian was not using a crosswalk when he was struck by a red Dodge Durango going southbound.

Investigators are checking surveillance video from nearby businesses.

Southbound lanes of Scottsdale Road were closed for several hours.
