TURTLE CREEK, Pa. (AP) - County police have added a criminal homicide charge against a Pittsburgh-area man already jailed on charges of attacking a neighbor who intervened in a fight between the suspect and his girlfriend.

Thirty-year-old Danny Washington, of Turtle Creek, was originally charged with aggravated assault and other crimes for repeatedly punching 58-year-old James Payne in the face on July 25. That’s when police say Payne tried to break up a fight between Washington and his girlfriend.

Payne later fell ill and died at a hospital two days later, and the Allegheny County medical examiner determined the punches led to his death.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (https://bit.ly/1kqRxTO ) says that led to the homicide charge filed Thursday.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for Washington, who remained jailed Friday and faces a preliminary hearing Aug. 15.
