MESA, Ariz. (AP) - An assistant police chief in a Phoenix suburb has been named the new chief of police in Couer d’Alene, Idaho.

Lee White will be moving to Idaho with his wife and children soon and is scheduled to start his new job on Sept. 2.

He was among 75 candidates for the Idaho position and received the official offer on Aug. 5.

White had been with the Mesa Police Department for more than 21 years.

He worked in or supervised nearly every area of police work, making his way through the ranks from patrol officer to assistant chief.

Mesa police officials say one thing that drew White to apply for the Idaho job was already having family in the Coeur d’Alene area.
