COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Traditional native American art from nine states is being highlighted in a new exhibit opening at the McKissick Museum on the University of South Carolina campus.

The displays feature pottery, basketry, wood and stone carving, textiles, beadwork and other regalia. The show also highlights the tribal music, dance and storytelling.

The exhibits highlight the use of local materials such as split oak, pine needles, honeysuckle, river cane, and shells.

Some of the tribes represented include the Edisto, Choctaw, Catawba, Seminole, Chitimacha, Wassamasaw and Creek.

The show opens Friday and will run through July 2015.
