BARRE, Vt. (AP) - Vermont State Police say a fire in Barre that destroyed a warehouse owned by the mayor is a case of arson.

Fire crews found the warehouse engulfed in flames early Thursday. No one was in the building and no one was hurt. The building was a total loss with damages estimated at $65,000.

Mayor Thomas Lauzon tells the Barre Times-Argus (https://bit.ly/1vkAPKK) the building was being used as storage by next-door neighbor ReSource Vermont. He said it was insured for about $300,000.

He said he had hoped to use the building for ReSource’s Youthbuild program, which provides job training for people between the ages of 16 and 24.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact the Arson Tip Line at 800-32-ARSON or the Barre City police at 802-476-6613.
