LEONIA, N.J. (AP) - Police have ticketed a school bus driver after a pedestrian was struck and killed in Leonia.

Officers issued 54-year-old Esperanza Jaramillo summonses for careless driving, failure to yield to a pedestrian and driving a vehicle with worn tires.

Police Chief Thomas Rowe tells The Record (https://bit.ly/1ooq8C3 ) newspaper the bus was turning onto Broad Avenue when it struck 60-year-old Leyla Kan of Fort Lee, who was in the middle of the intersection and had the right of way.

Rowe says Kan was apparently unseen by the driver and was struck by the protruding passenger compartment behind the minibus’ door.

The driver, an aide and a special-needs student on the bus were not injured.
