SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - A union official in Shreveport says some workers in the city’s water and sewerage department are upset about wages and other issues.

Shelia Johnson discussed the matter with KSLA TV (https://bit.ly/XJPLDl ) on Thursday - the same day Shreveport officials confirmed that eight employees from the water and sewerage department customer service office called in sick.

Johnson said the water department workers will meet with officials Friday to try to resolve the issues.

City communications director Rod Richardson said the water department implemented contingency plans to deal with Thursday’s personnel shortage.
