CHICAGO (AP) - Police in Chicago say officers have shot and wounded a driver who tried to run them down during an arrest attempt in a Northwest Side neighborhood.

A police news release says the officers were responding to a call Friday of a man using drugs in an alley in the Logan Square area.

Police say the man refused officers’ commands to leave a vehicle he was found in and accelerated toward them, “using his vehicle as a weapon.”

Officers fired and hit the man.

Fraternal Order of Police spokesman Pat Camden says officers also used a stun gun to subdue the man.

He was taken to a hospital in serious-to-critical condition.

None of the officers was injured.
