ATLANTA (AP) - A former Fulton County Deputy Sheriff has been sentenced to a year and three months in prison for demanding bribe payments from people he scheduled to work as public swimming pool security guards.

U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates says Reginald Warren was contracted by the city of Atlanta to provide pool security while working for the sheriff’s department and used his position to extort workers. She says Warren demanded payment from at least three people in exchange for continuing to schedule them for more work.

Yates says the 50-year-old Covington, Georgia resident collected thousands of dollars during a three-month period in the summer of 2011.

The former deputy sheriff pleaded guilty on May 6.
