HENDERSON, N.C. (AP) - Authorities say a former Vance County employee faces forgery and embezzlement charges in the theft of more than $300,000 in county funds.

Sheriff Peter White tells The Daily Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1oyZXDK ) that 41-year-old former county employee Christa Harris Reavis was arrested Friday and charged with 29 counts of forgery and a count of embezzlement.

The former county finance office worker is also charged with felony larceny stemming from the disappearance of a bag containing more than $60,000 worth of checks from the county tax office back in 2009.

Authorities allege that, starting in 2007, Reavis printed checks payable under a valid vendor and then altered payee’s names.

It was not immediately clear if she had an attorney.
