BRISTOL, Maine (AP) - A Maine historic site is hosting a 17th century-style encampment to illustrate the state’s early history.

Colonial Pemaquid State Historic Site is hosting the event on Saturday and Sunday. Organizers say it will bring the state’s early maritime, military and Native American history to life.

There will be firearms displays, craft demonstrations, and historical reenactments. The historic site will also host a demonstration of cod splitting - the act of preparing cod caught off Maine’s coast for the voyage to England.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday.
