DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - A 10-year-old Durham boy who’s too young to play college football is about to become part of the N.C. Central football team.

The school says head coach Jerry Mack will hold a mock news conference and scholarship signing for Howell Brown III at 2 p.m. Sunday at the student union.

The special day was arranged by Boston-based nonprofit organization Team IMPACT, which tries to improve the quality of life for children facing life-threatening and chronic illnesses through the power of team.

In November 2012, Howell was diagnosed with Stage IV Pineoblastoma, a rare type of brain tumor. He had surgery the next month to remove the tumor and began radiation and chemotherapy. He finished treatment last September, and two subsequent MRIs have shown no signs of a tumor.
