POWNAL, Vt. (AP) - The select board in the southern Vermont town of Pownal is giving conceptual approval to a proposal for a former horse and dog racing track to host music festivals starting next year.

The majority owner of the company that owns the former Green Mountain Race Track has asked for the board’s backing so that the company can pursue permits from state and local agencies.

The race track hosted the Lollapalooza music festival in 1996.

The Rutland Herald (https://bit.ly/1u2BnmV ) reports that the site is now called the Southern Vermont Energy Park, which was intended to bring in green energy business. The site has solar panels but a proposal to develop a wood pellet burning electricity generation plant fell through in 2011..
