SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (AP) - Free book bags while they last. Health screenings. Free haircuts for boys - and food.

The Southfield school district is holding a back-to-school fair Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. You don’t have to be a district resident to attend and get the benefits.

The fair is being held at the Southfield High School football field on Lahser Road.

SPS All-Stars will be introduced. They are students who have won awards or achieved outstanding academic or personal success.

Superintendent Lynda Wood says it’s an important event, especially for struggling families that need help. She says 60 percent of her students qualify for free or reduced lunch.
