ALBERTA, Mich. (AP) - Free tours of a sawmill museum and field trips in a nearby forest are being offered in the Village of Alberta in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

The free program runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and also features a car show at the Ford Center at Michigan Technological University’s School of Forest Resources and Environmental Science.

Ford Motor Co. donated the village and sawmill to Michigan Tech in 1954 and the school has used the facilities and surrounding woods to train foresters, applied ecologists, environmental scientists, wildlife ecologists and natural resources managers.

The automaker’s corporate historian and past and present deans of the School of Forest Resources and Environmental Science will speak during Saturday’s program.

Alberta is about 40 miles south of Houghton.
