WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) - Wilmington is recognizing four men who received the nation’s highest honor.

The StarNews of Wilmington reports (https://bit.ly/1nzTV5P) the four Medal of Honor recipients will be inducted into Celebrate Wilmington’s Walk of Fame in a ceremony scheduled for Saturday at Walk of Fame Plaza.

Among the four is Sgt. Eugene Ashley, who received his Medal of Honor for his actions while aiding trapped servicemen in Vietnam.

During a two-day battle to rescue U.S. Special Forces advisers, Ashley led five assaults against the enemy. During the final assault, he called in air strikes close to his own position and the enemy withdrew,

His citation says Ashley continued fighting even after he was wounded by machine gun fire. He was killed when an enemy artillery round landed in the area.
