COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - A woman convicted of causing the car crash that killed a mother and her 3-year-old son has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

The Colorado Springs Gazette reports (https://goo.gl/m68xeZ ) that El Paso County District Judge Timothy Schutz handed down the sentence Friday. Thirty-one-year-old Arica Vlach, who was convicted in June, sobbed before the judge’s sentence and said she hoped one day she could be forgiven.

Authorities say Vlach was drunk on the morning of July 12, 2013, when she ran a stop sign in eastern El Paso County. She was charged with two counts of vehicular homicide for the deaths of 42-year-old Nicole Enderle and her son Alexander.

Schutz did not give Vlach the maximum possible sentence of 62 years because she did not have a criminal record before the crash.
