BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (AP) - A convicted sex offender has been sentenced to 41 to 82 years in prison for shooting his mother in her bedroom at their western Michigan home.

Forty-year-old David Siefert pleaded no contest Oct. 30 to attempted murder and possessing a firearm in a felony. Calhoun County Circuit Judge Conrad Sindt sentenced Siefert on Monday in Battle Creek.

The Battle Creek Enquirer (https://bcene.ws/1y72MRO ) says that Siefert moved into his mother’s home in Sheridan Township near Albion in March 2013 after serving about 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl.

Sixty-three-year-old Patricia Siefert says her son shot her in the shoulder with a rifle Aug. 24. She was able to flee after it jammed.

Authorities say David Siefert may have been angry at being asked to mow the lawn.
