PAVILION TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities have recovered the body of a 65-year-old man after a fire destroyed his Kalamazoo County home.

Family members tell TV station WWMT that the victim of Monday morning’s fire was John Tolmacs. They say he had a number of health problems and lived alone.

The house is in Pavilion Township, southeast of Kalamazoo.

Township Fire Chief Karl Poenicke tells the Kalamazoo Gazette that the body was found a few hours after crews were called to the home around 3:30 a.m. Monday. Firefighters from four area departments searched the rubble.

Poenicke says the house was “fully involved” in the fire as crews responded. He says the blaze melted siding on a neighbor’s home.

The cause is under investigation.
