DENVER (AP) - Prosecutors have dropped charges against a Denver police officer accused of brawling with a co-worker at a cookout in Aurora.

Jeremy Ownbey pleaded not guilty in July to trespassing, child abuse and DUI after a fight at the home of a Denver police detective over the summer.

Investigators say Ownbey and his wife Jamie began arguing with the other officer and his wife during the gathering. The detective asked the Ownbeys to leave, at which point Jamie Ownbey allegedly struck the other wife from behind. The officers then started fighting.

Prosecutors had said the Ownbeys also left their two young children home alone, prompting the child abuse charges - and that Jeremy Ownbey was under the influence when he drove away.

The Denver Post reports (https://dpo.st/1wggypM ) prosecutors indicated they’d have a hard time proving the allegations.
