INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - An anonymous donor has given 400 coats to needy students at an Indianapolis elementary school.

The Metropolitan School District of Washington Township said in a news release Monday the donor provided the coats to Nora Elementary School on the city’s far north side. About 84 percent of the 750 students there receive free or reduced-price meals.

Principal Amber Walters says many students at the school don’t have coats, so the donation will help keep them warm when they’re standing at bus stops.

The school district says the donor spent many years living in poverty and wanted to show others in that situation that they don’t have to spend their entire lives impoverished.
