MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) - Cobb County prosecutors say a woman has been sentenced in an attack on two sheriff’s deputies outside the county jail.

District Attorney’s spokeswoman Kim Isaza said in a statement Monday that 34-year-old Candida Summerlin of Marietta was sentenced to 61 years.

Authorities have said Summerlin was in a car in a restricted area outside the Cobb County jail on May 31, 2013 and ran into a deputy who went to check on her. Investigators say a second deputy who came to help his colleague was also injured when Summerlin hit him with her car.

Summerlin tearfully apologized to the deputies. During her trial, her attorneys said the woman has bipolar disorder and didn’t know right from wrong at the time.

Summerlin was found guilty but mentally ill on 13 charges.
