FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) - The University of Arkansas at Fort Smith says Gov.-elect Asa Hutchinson will be the university’s commencement speaker.

The Times Record reports (https://bit.ly/1CvPK8i ) that Hutchinson will speak during the Dec. 11 ceremony that is to begin at 7 p.m. at Stubblefield Center. About 630 students are expected to graduate.

Hutchinson is a Republican who defeated Democratic nominee Mike Ross in the Nov. 4 general election.

Hutchinson is a former U.S. attorney, U.S. congressman, administrator of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and undersecretary for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

He will take office as governor in January, succeeding Democratic Gov. Mike Beebe.
