HENNEPIN, Ill. (AP) - Putnam County in north-central Illinois has a new top prosecutor.

The (Peoria) Journal Star reports (https://bit.ly/1FGRzeZ) that Hennepin attorney Christina Mennie will be the next Putnam County state’s attorney. She says she’ll be the first female state’s attorney in the county. She says that “means so much to me.”

The Putnam County Board unanimously approved her selection at a special meeting on Saturday. She succeeds Jim Mack who was prosecutor for a decade before he was elected county judge in the Nov. 4 election.

Mennie’s appointment runs through the 2016 election.
