GRANITE FALLS, Wash. (AP) - The Snohomish County sheriff’s office says a search and rescue team with a helicopter recovered the body Monday of a kayaker who apparently drowned Sunday afternoon in the South Fork Stillaguamish River near Granite Falls.

Two friends pulled him ashore after his kayak capsized but he could not be revived. The sheriff’s office had to wait for daylight to recover the body because of river and weather conditions.

The Snohomish County medical examiner’s office has not yet released the name of the 24-year-old Alaska man.
