ELIZABETH, N.J. (AP) - A northern New Jersey man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for the shooting death of his former friend’s aunt, a killing that occurred after the two men argued about their gang affiliations.

Eduardo Lago, of Newark, was convicted in January on murder and weapons charges stemming from the November 2010 slaying of 35-year-old Yesinina Feliciano of Elizabeth. His sentence was announced on Monday.

Union County prosecutors say the then 17-year-old Lago, a former Elizabeth resident who had moved to Newark, was looking for his former friend when he went to the man’s Elizabeth home. They say he shot Feliciano when she and her sister, the mother of Lago’s former friend, both answered the door.

Feliciano, the mother of four, was shot in the chest.
