EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - The estate of former Steelcase Inc. chairman Peter Wege is auctioning off items from the late philanthropist’s home in East Grand Rapids.

Wege was a major donor to the Grand Rapids Art Museum and other organization before he died in July at age 94, the Grand Rapids Press reported (https://bit.ly/1ytSOwL ). His estate will auction roughly 600 of his belongings in a one-day online auction Wednesday.

Items up for grabs include a 2010 Lincoln MKS, a Yamaha Mark III Disklavier baby grand piano, furniture, books and collectibles that include a signed baseball by Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan.

The auction will also offer up Wege’s sizeable art collection that includes work by Grand Rapids artists Paul Collins and Jon McDonald, along with personal items, such as a 1990 framed certificate awarded to Wege for circumnavigating the globe on the Concord, a British Airways supersonic plane.

Bidding on most items will start at $5, but some pieces will start around $100, such as a hand-knotted Oriental rug from the 1930s.

Most auction proceeds will go to the Wege Foundation for its charitable work.

Prospective bidders can register and submit a bid in advance, but they won’t appear on the auction website, Orbitbid.com, until the auction opens.
