ZEELAND, Mich. (AP) - Students at a western Michigan middle school are auctioning off 100 refurbished end tables to raise money for families in need in their community.

The Grand Rapids Press reports (https://bit.ly/1z6LlmE ) the students at Creekside Middle School in Zeeland aim to raise $10,000 through the “100 Table Project.” The money would establish a fund to support some families at the school.

Art teacher Tamara Draper says she decided to launch the project after eighth-graders worked on two tables last year and raised $600 for two families.

Draper says about 200 students have been involved in the year-long project to some extent and at least a dozen other teachers are incorporating it into their classwork. She says students are creating a website where people can bid on completed tables.
