ATHENS, Ala. (AP) - A northwest Alabama man has been sentenced to life in prison in his grandmother’s death.
Limestone County District Attorney Brian Jones says 36-year-old James Paul Pigg of Athens pleaded guilty Monday in the March 2012 death of his grandmother, Barbara Delaney.
Local media outlets reported that Pigg’s trial was scheduled to begin Monday.
Authorities have said Pigg assaulted Delaney with a hammer before fatally shooting her. The two shared a home and investigators have said the woman was trying to evict him.
