NEW YORK (AP) - Authorities are investigating after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a Long Island Rail Road train.

It happened Sunday night at Dunton Avenue between Patchogue and Bellport.

A LIRR spokeswoman tells Newsday that the victim was hit by the 5:35 p.m. train that originated in Montauk. The train was scheduled to arrive at Jamaica at 8:10 p.m.

The incident caused service delays on the Montauk line.

The victim wasn’t immediately identified.
