KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii (AP) - A 22-year-old hiker who became separated from companions was found dead Sunday in a Waipio Valley river.

West Hawaii Today (https://bit.ly/1wctYmD) reports Hawaii County Fire Department searchers found the woman’s body in the river leading to Hiiwale Falls.

The woman was part of a group hiking to the falls Saturday. She was last seen on the trail to the falls and was reported missing just before 5 p.m.

Rescue crews and a rescue helicopter searched Saturday from Waipio Valley Road to Hiiwale Falls until darkness fell. The search resumed Sunday morning.

The woman’s body was found in 5 feet of water about 200 yards above the Tea House in the river.

The Hawaii Police Department is investigating the death.
