CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Suburban Detroit authorities have charged two teenage boys they say used a BB gun to shoot out the windows of dozens of vehicles in neighborhoods across Macomb County.

They’ve also charged one boy’s mother, saying she lied to police when she denied her son wasn’t driving at the time.

County Prosecutor Eric Smith says in a statement that the vandalism happened Saturday afternoon and night. He says the 16-year-old is charged with 70 counts of malicious destruction of property and the 15-year-old is charged with 46 counts.

Smith says the teens carried out the vandalism in Clinton and Macomb townships and the city of Mount Clemens.

The prosecutor says he charged a Clinton Township woman who covered up for her son.
