LAS VEGAS (AP) - University Medical Center officials say the hospital’s CEO is leaving for a job with Dignity Health.

Officials said Monday that Lawrence Barnard was resigning to take a job as president of Dignity’s San Martin hospital in Nevada.

UMC Governing Board Chairman John O’ Reilly says the board will meet Friday to discuss making the hospital’s chief operating officer Mason VanHouweling (Van-HOW-ling) its interim CEO.

Hospital spokeswoman Danita Cohen says VanHouweling has been with UMC since April.

Barnard joined University Medical Center in August 2012 and was the hospital’s chief operating officer when the board chose him to assume the top spot in January.

That’s when former CEO Brian Brannman announced he was leaving after nearly three years leading the hospital.

Brannman also left to take a position with Dignity Health.
