MATTYDALE, N.Y. (AP) - Two burglars trying to flee police Monday morning after breaking into a convenience store in the northern suburbs of Syracuse have been caught after colliding with a police cruiser.

Onondaga County Undersheriff Warren Darby says after the getaway car was boxed in by authorities around daybreak, one of two suspects attempted to ram his way out of the road block and struck a deputy. Darby says the deputy then fired one shot at the car to prevent the suspect from causing further injury or damage.

Both suspects were arrested and authorities believe they are the only ones involved in the burglary. They have not been identified.

Police say one suspect appeared to be grazed by a bullet and is hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries while the injured deputy suffered minor injuries.
