RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia Commonwealth University is marking the 25th anniversary of Douglas Wilder’s election as the nation’s first black governor.

The L. Douglas Wilder School of Government will hold a daylong symposium on Thursday. The symposium will feature an analysis of Wilder’s election in 1989 and his tenure as governor from 1990 to 1994 by historians and members of the national media.

There also will be an evening gala at the Richmond Marriott.
