PARKER, S.D. (AP) - Neighbors and others are helping two large southeastern South Dakota families who lost homes in weekend fires.

KELO-TV reports that members of the Parker community dropped off clothes and other items for the 10-member Walton family at a local school following a Saturday morning blaze. Crews worked for hours to extinguish the fire. The cause wasn’t immediately determined.

Brandon Walton says he’s grateful for the community’s support. The family with eight children ranging in age from 2 to 14 had lived in the house for four years.

Meanwhile, the Red Cross says it’s helping a family of seven that was displaced by a house fire in Alexandria on Saturday. There was no immediate word on the cause.
