VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - The Virginia Aquarium Stranding Team says a dwarf sperm whale that was found stranded along the shore in Virginia Beach has been euthanized.

Stranding team spokeswoman Joan Barns tells WVEC-TV (https://bit.ly/1yvN2e6 ) that the 200-pound female whale will be taken to the aquarium for a necropsy.

The whale was discovered Monday morning by a pier near Little Island Park.

Earlier this month, an 8-foot juvenile pygmy sperm whale was euthanized after it was found stranded.
