HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - The state Agriculture Department is starting to tout the 99th annual Farm Show, an eight-day celebration of Pennsylvania’s agricultural products and rural life.

The department says the event will open Jan. 10 and will feature 6,000 animals, 10,000 competitive exhibits and 300 commercial exhibitors at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center in Harrisburg.

The unveiling of the 1,000-pound butter sculpture will be Jan. 8, while the Pennsylvania Preferred reception will be Jan. 9. Reception tickets are $35.

New features will include a fundraiser to benefit the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank’s milk distribution program and an exhibition of lumberjacking events like axe throwing and crosscut sawing.

Returning features include the celebrity cow milking contest, the grape stomp, celebrity draft horse team driving and the rabbit hopping competition.
