SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Police in Savannah say a 20-year-old man has been arrested in a shooting during a domestic dispute that left a 6-year-old girl wounded.

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan police spokesman Julian Miller says Brandon Maurice Stewart was arrested Wednesday and is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and a probation violation in the Nov. 20 shooting.

Miller says he and the girl’s mother, 22-year-old Shauneequa Monique Jones, are also both charged with cruelty to children. Miller says the woman’s two children are in custody of the Georgia Division of Children and Family Services.

Miller says Jones initially told police she was walking the girl to school, heard a noise and realized the girl had been shot. Miller says investigators later determined the shooting actually happened inside the woman’s apartment.
