FLINT, Mich. (AP) - A competition in Flint is inviting local innovators to pitch their ideas for a chance to win $5,000 in startup support and a shot at additional funding.

Spartan Innovations at Michigan State University’s Innovation Center selected the Flint Area Reinvestment Office to host the GreenLight Flint Business Model Competition on Jan. 22.

Adrian Montague, consultant for the reinvestment office, tells The Flint Journal (https://bit.ly/1quZ4Uy ) that the office has “established a good base of people” to pitch ideas.

The winner of GreenLight Flint will receive $5,000 in startup support resources and a seat at the GreenLight Business Model Competition on March 31 in East Lansing. At that event, participants will be able to compete for up to $50,000 to help start a business.

Participants will pitch their ideas or new startups to judges and have the opportunity to network with venture capital investors. The top prize is $25,000 along with several other prizes in different categories. There’s also a GreenLight Port Huron Business Model Competition.
