GALVESTON, Texas (AP) - A Houston-area inmate is facing additional charges after authorities say he punched a jailer who was trying to diffuse an argument.

The Galveston County Daily News reports (https://bit.ly/1vCFTnA ) 32-year-old Ryan Stranahan was being held at the county jail Wednesday morning on $5,000 bond. He was charged with assaulting a public servant on Tuesday.

Galveston County Sheriff’s Office officials say Stranahan grabbed Officer Gerardo Lopez and hit him in the side of the face. They say the argument started after another inmate said Stranahan threw a cup of water on him.

It’s unclear why Stranahan was originally jailed. Online jail records didn’t indicate an attorney.
