LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A Lancaster County judge has found a 77-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing his son-in-law at a child’s birthday party is not competent to stand trial.

The Lincoln Journal Star reports (https://bit.ly/1BxoJA7 ) Bayapa Lingala will be treated at the Lincoln Regional Center. The judge ordered the move on Tuesday after a doctor testified that Lingala isn’t able to understand the charges against him or assist in his defense.

The county prosecutor didn’t object to the decision.

Lincoln police say Lingala stabbed 46-year-old Sujay Nooka on Aug. 5. The men were attending a birthday party for Nooka’s daughter. It’s unclear what led to the stabbing.

The criminal case is on hold until a review hearing in April.
